Privacy Policy

Last updated November 2, 2026

Pawstar is a place to remember a pet who has died.

What you share here is personal, so we collect as little as we can and keep it private by default.

Who we are

Pawstar is an independent app run from Alberta, Canada.

Our privacy officer can be reached at notordinarydsgn+pawstar@gmail.com.

What we collect

Your email address, to send you a sign-in code.

The name you choose to show, and the time you told us you are 18 or older.

What you add about your pet: name, dates, breed, story, photos and letters.

Candles you light, stars you follow, families you block and reports you send.

If you send a gift: your friend’s first name, their pet’s name and your message.

What we never collect

Your location, your contacts or your date of birth.

Location and other hidden details inside your photos: we remove them on your phone before upload.

We show no ads, use no advertising trackers, and never sell or share your information for advertising.

Who can see what

Every star starts as “Only me”.

You choose if a star is seen by connected families or by everyone, and you can change it at any time.

Your letters are only ever visible to you.

Reports go only to us.

Why we use it

To run Pawstar for you, keep the community safe, answer you, and meet our legal duties.

We don’t use your memories, photos or letters to train AI, and we don’t let anyone else do so.

Companies that help us

Supabase stores our database, sign-in and photos.

Resend delivers sign-in emails.

Cloudflare hosts our website, which sets no cookies and runs no analytics.

Apple and Google deliver the app and, later, handle any payments; we never see your card.

These companies may store or process information outside your province or Canada, including in the United States, where their laws apply.

They may only use it to provide their service to us.

To ask how they handle your information, write to notordinarydsgn+pawstar@gmail.com.

How long we keep it

Until you delete it.

Deleting a star removes its photos, story and letters.

Deleting your account removes everything, including the reports you sent.

Copies in our providers’ backups are removed in their normal cycle.

Your choices and rights

In the app you can download your data, edit it, change who sees each star, and delete your account.

You can also write to notordinarydsgn+pawstar@gmail.com to see, correct or delete your information, or withdraw consent.

We answer within 30 days.

In Canada you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, in Alberta to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, and in Quebec to the Commission d’accès à l’information.

If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have the same rights to know, correct and delete; we do not sell or share personal information.

Adults only

Pawstar is for people 18 and older.

If we learn an account belongs to someone younger, we delete it.

Keeping it safe

Information travels encrypted, photos sit in private storage, and database rules stop anyone reading what isn’t theirs.

If a breach ever puts you at risk, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
